Monte Cristo Sandwich

Sandwich
 8 slices of country white bread
 4 slices of ham
 4 slices of turkey
 4 slices of gruyere or swiss
 2 tbsp powder sugar for dusting
Batter & Frying
 ¾ cup flour
 ½ tsp salt
 1 pinch white pepper
 1 ½ tsp baking powder
 ¾ cup water
 1 egg
 vegetable oil for frying
Jam Sauce
 ¾ cup berry jamstore bought or use my recipe
 1 tbsp cream
 1 tbsp water

Use a blender to mix jam, cream and water. Blend and set aside for later.

Batter

In a large bowl mix the dry ingredients (flour, salt, pepper, and baking powder) .

In a separate bowl whisk the water and egg until well combined.

Incorporate your wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until you have a fluffy batter. Set aside.

Build the Sandwich

Lay four slices of bread down and layer each one with meat and cheese, ( see order below) . Top with reaming four slices of bread and secure with toothpicks.

Fill a large pot or fryer 6-7 inches high with oil and heat to 340F.

Dip one sandwich in the batter making sure to fully coat all sides. Using tongs place the battered sandwich in your oil and fry until you have a nice golden brown, flipping as needed. Transfer to a wire drying rack to cool. Repeat this step for all four sandwiches.

Dust each fried sandwich with powdered sugar.

Cut in half and serve with a side of jam sauce. Enjoy!
